Baby & Childcare Consultancy and Maternity Nurse Services
Rachel provides a Consultancy and Maternity Nurse Service to parents offering help with and advice on newborns, growing babies and toddlers. Rachel is an advocate of a flexible, loving routine and has seen this method work very successfully for many years with her clients’ babies as well as her own children and grandchildren.
There are three levels of services Rachel can offer:
Maternity Nurse
Ante-natal
Rachel can help you prepare for your new baby. This includes preparation of the nursery and all that will be needed for the new baby and what to expect during those first few days when baby comes out of hospital.
Post-natal
Rachel is happy to live in for a few days or to visit daily to help mum with baby. She will care for both, ensuring mum gets the rest she needs. She will also teach and guide the parents in the general care and feeding of baby and helping to get baby into a flexible routine.
Rachel will also go into a home where mum is tired and needs a rest or just a few nights off. Rachel can offer her services on a 24 hour basis; looking after both mother and baby, sleeping in the same room as the baby, helping mother with breast/bottle feeding, sleeping and any other aspects to help with baby.
Rachel can also look after baby if you would like to go out or get on with the cooking, bottles or ironing for instance – but she doesn’t do housework!
Consultant
This is an advice service; either over the telephone, by e-mail or in person when Rachel can do home visits, depending on location. She will talk through any problems or concerns and come up with a plan to solve them. For example:
| Breast feeding Bottle feeding Getting your baby to sleep through the night Weaning Potty Training Tantrums |
General Care
This aims to give help with the practical aspects of looking after the baby if mum needs help in feeding and caring for baby. Also if she needs little breaks – in order to be able to pop out to do the shopping, run errands. Rachel would be extra support for the mother where needed. This is not as extensive as the full Maternity Nurse Service.

‘Rachel gave me confidence to drop the night feed, longhaul travel advice and recently helped me understand what foods are suitable for Guy, who is now 6 months old. It's so reassuring to know Rachel's just a phone call or email away if I ever get stuck.’

'Working with Rachel was such an enlightening experience. Not only did she guide me through a few tricky toddler sleep dilemmas, but she did it with patience and kindness. Thanks to her my son is sleeping better, which obviously means I’m sleeping better!'

‘Thank you for the invaluable help and support that your book gave me. I found your kind, knowledgeable and loving approach such a breath of fresh air that both Jacob and I soared through our first year.
I have moved on to your second book the Toddler years and finding that equally invaluable. Thank you so much for the help and wisdom your books offer. You’re a very special lady.’

'Every day I read Rachel's book and tried to stick to the timings as much as possible. Rachel's book was my constant companion and I referred to it numerous times throughout the day. Some days were better than others until one day I realised I knew what to do next. I needed the routine and structure of the book more than my baby did!
After 6 weeks it all came together and Harry seemed to know what was coming next. I still refer to the book regulary and have bought it for all my pregnant friends.
The best bit though was having a phone consultation with Rachel and then having her to stay for 24 hours. Of course I had lots of questions and Rachel could not only answer them all but gave me so many practical bits of advice that make life so much easier.
I'm trying hard not to sound evangelical but in my case she really has made an enormous difference to my whole family. Harry is a happy contented little boy, I'm getting a good night’s sleep, my husband and I have uninterrupted evenings together and my step kids love their brother. Can't ask for much more than that!'

'It was when our second daughter came along that I decided to contact Rachel as I was really struggling with two children who would have different routines because of their ages and the fact that the age gap of 16 months was quite small. I needed help with having a flexible routine which I could manage for the two of them. Rachel came to visit our family and we found her to be very pleasant, calming and helpful. More than that, she was very encouraging which helps a lot, as when you feel confident and able to manage well, then the children sense a happy parent and things tend to run more smoothly. I am certain that Rachel has helped us to settle into and enjoy the new addition to our family.'
